In today’s society, everything is fast-paced. Most of us are ‘on the go’ which makes us want to move and work conveniently. We all can agree that whether for personal or work purposes we certainly use the internet. And to do that we prefer connecting on WiFi more than the mobile data. One good reason would be that WiFi takes less battery consumption. Thus, it also enables a faster and more convenient way of sharing files and information.
In this blog, we will share with you the advantages and disadvantages of using WiFi.
The Advantages Of WiFi
Convenience And Mobility
A wireless network connection can allow multiple users to connect and access through the same network with less hassle and interruption on speed. Compared to a wired connection (LAN) where you’re limited to a spot for the connection not to be interrupted, you can move freely within the area as long as the connection is within the range.
Using WiFi, you‘ll feel less bound to one single spot while you’re connected to the internet. Thus it makes you be able to connect to the internet using other compact devices such as smartphones, tablets, laptops, and other WiFi-capable gadgets.
Faster Productivity And Network Sharing
File sharing such as photos, file documents, music files, and others within the same wireless network connection is much faster from one device to another. This makes working more convenient and faster, especially in the workplace, which boosts productivity. Significantly, the wireless connection has less downtime than the mobile data.
As compared to wired-connection, WiFi can handle more users as they are not limited to a certain number of ports to be able to use the internet connection.
Affordable And Less Clutter
WiFi installation is faster to do compared to a wired connection because it requires less equipment. It also saves time and amount of expenses for the labor cost which could be an advantage to your end, the user, as you can either keep the saved amount or invest it in additional extras such as additional speed capability or subscription bundled in the WiFi.
Another thing is that there will be less visible clutter when WiFi is set up, particularly the number of cables which can sometimes become a hassle when it is cut or broken.
The Disadvantages Of WiFi
Security
Even though there are certain measures taken to ensure the security of a wireless connection, it is still prone to hacking. This can happen most often on public WiFi networks due to its wireless nature and is open to anyone.
Range And Speed
First, although it is significantly more convenient than a wired connection as being connected to WiFi allows you to move freely, it doesn’t mean that it has a wide range to keep you connected. The more you get farther from the WiFi router or it is blocked by thick walls, the connection is visibly affected giving you slower access.
Second, the speed is also affected by the number of users connecting to the same network. Yes, a wireless connection can accommodate more users than a wired connection but it doesn’t mean that it can equally give everyone the same amount of speed because all users are sharing only on one server. Furthermore, there’s a bandwidth limit on how many can connect at the same time.
Health Issues
There are studies conducted (and still being conducted) that WiFi has can affect someone’s health because of the WiFi waves and signals it releases. Though there are further studies being done as the topic is still debatable, there are claims that say that WiFi affects someone’s sperm count, can lower the testosterone level, and can damage DNA. But again, there’s still no concrete evidence on this and further studies are being done.
